I know it looks like not much has happened here, but the truth is we've been adding a bunch of reviews, going to show for those reviews and just trying to get material out there for you people to read. Plankton has been busy cranking out some literature for your eyes, and we've got a new staff Member all the way from Horrorwood Babble-on - Rufus Blisters has joined us and will attacking the upcoming Valiant Thor interview, so welcome him, just don't get near him when he eats for fear of being inhaled with the food.
So check us out, you'll always find something interesting.

We have oh, so much for you in store for the next month - We are going to be having a re-launching party to get the message out that the sleeping giant is back, and we're open for bidness!
INTERVIEWS - Our Never Sleeping staff have been dumping the old Life From Beyond site over into the PHP Databases. And for a website that had over 350 pages of html in it's prime, you can imagine the time and energy being spent on such a task. Luckily, we've got it organized where all new material gets top priority, then at night the older site gets moved from archive to live once again ,and ll those reviews, interviews and poetry you've come to enjoy will be there for generations to come. Some of them have already spanned 16 years of this magazine's history and we are still going.
We will be printing up some new stickers & shirts, and getting some kick ass local acts together for a sponsored show in the next few months.
Please check out the interviews & reviews section for the latest from our past and our present. Enjoy! - Yoalpster |

Yes, I'd say it's about frikkin' time we got off our asses and finally did something on this site. We've had changes - staff changes, location changes, cash flow changes, spiritual changes, etc. At the moment, we have a 3.5 person staff (myself, Plankton, Ladyfirebug, and a handful of people who say they're interested and haven't stepped up to the plate yet.) We also have a big presence on the ever so tiny but cool as hell pirate radio station WDDR worldwide. Yoalpster is a new music coordinator and sometimes microphone spitter. Props go out Eric Blair & co. for their open arms acceptance of us. Hopefully later on down the road we'll have podcasts of both a LFB show and WDDR's broadcast available for download, so STAY TUNED.
There is NO good place if you're underage to go see a show now! The Static Bar (18+) went under and headed to KC from Topeka, the Groundworks Coffee house in Leavenworth known for their all ages shows is now closed. They said they would be doing "Groundworks" nights at different venues for all ages shows, and had a failed attempt to relocate into JOCO, so i doubt we well see them again for a while.
As far as bands go, SYN (synesthetic) from NE Kansas have disbanded. Wade & Dane Woodring are doing a techno side project called Lucid Bunny, and Wade (who bought the Yoalpster Ranch from yours truly) has made Masada Recording Studio located in Oskaloosa. Lots cheaper and better sounding than the normal Lawrence studios - check them out if you can.
It looks like a good year for shows, but like I said before, venues suck. The 98% are 18+ and all in Missouri are 21+, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of these kids start doing free shows in parks and in VFW halls around the area. (hinthint, you little fucks) It should be an interesting year, and this mag is knocked out it's cobwebs off its junk and is ready to be as cool as it ever was, even though we're probably as old as some of the readers (15 this year...)
We're back, kiddies, so get used to it. |

After a rough winter, LIFE FROM BEYOND is kicking into high gear with new material, reviews, music, and people to help out. There are lots of cool shows to goto now, a handfull of decent bands, and computers that are holding their own and not falling apart! So IF you're in a local/not-so-local band and want reviewed, please send your demos to:
LIFE FROM BEYOND Magazine
25730 Evans Rd.
Tonganoxie, KS 66086
They will be reviewed as soon as we get them, and announced here on the main page when they are available! Also, LFB will be diving into the vaults and pulling out some of the funniest, wackiest and coolest videos from it's past all the way back to 1992 and putting those clips up here and at YouTube. Be sure to keep an eye out for that.
Just glad to be in the swng of things again. Tell your friends we're back, and stay often! Later people! |

My good buddy Gery Vermin of www.horrorwoodbabbleon.com is calling it quits on the 3 year anniversary of that amazing site. Horrorwood started here in the Bowels of Life From Beyond back in February 2002 and to have a 4 year 9 month life and a 3 year stint as a one of the best horror-based sites around is quite an accomplishment for Mr. Vermin.
It wasn't about impressing others - it was all about impressing himself. He did the site for the love of it, much like I haven't given up on this "zine" thing I started 15 years ago. We don't get paid in anything but the joy of the scene and the friends we make while here. I should have taken his advice long ago - "When it is no longer fun, then stop doing it." I still think I can do something with my life with this as a stepping stone to something else. Maybe that's why I haven't stepped, because the rock I'm standing on is tied around my shoe. Nevertheless, I still get people coming up to me from the good ol' days and thanking me for my site and how it was funny, informative, and eye opening to all kinds of music and stuff. But I digress...
Gery and I have met our heroes doing the websites/zines we do. We've met people that were genuine and real who we thought would be complete dicks, and just the opposite, when you think the guy is great, then you meet him in person and find out he's a prick in real life. We've both lost some of our hearing to too many shows (more me than Gery, he's smart enough to remember ear plugs everytime now), and basically, because of this "line of work", he's made a career of art, first doing shirts for bands he loved. Making this scene pay us back a little for all the cash, mail, phonecalls, crap, and especially time we cannot get back for listening to the most gawd awful crap to inform you of it is the justification of doing it. To sit on a tour bus and decode the fact that the heroes you grew up listening to for years are just people like you with problems, and their lives are full of shit too, just on different levels, but they do it for the love of it is quite an amazing thing for one who can get on that bus for something they love to do, not just to blow anyone.
My hat, if i wore one, is off to you, Gery. Don't lose the faith, keep your friends, and enjoy your family nights in. Not many people have pics of them with their daughter on stage with everyone from Marky Ramone to Little Richard because of their "hobby" or an "Uncle Mo" for that matter.. Bastards for ever.
I'm gonna try to milk this one more time before I take my hat off, and hopefully you readers will help me make this ride a good one. |
